Jamie Oliver’s TED Talk.
"I wish for everyone to help create a strong, sustainable movement to educate every child about food, inspire families to cook again and empower people everywhere to fight obesity."
"We've got to start teaching our kids about food in schools. Period."
"The big brands need to put food education at the heart of their businesses. It's the future. It's the only way."
In the past 100 years, we've prolonged the life expectancy of the average American by over 30 years. There are three main reasons for this-- clean water, vaccines, and antibiotics. These are the public health and medical interventions that prevent or treat acute illness and save the children. Because when you save children's lives, you drastically lengthen the life expectancy of a population.
Now we're left with a population full of chronic disease that, for the most part, stems from decades of unhealthy behavior. Without changing behavior, we won't have a relevant impact on chronic disease. We don't have pills that reverse 40 years of smoking, unhealthy eating, and sitting on the couch.
Our number one priority at The Future Well is using intelligent design to change our nation's behavior for the better. It's the key to our well future.
